National Honor Society
20 points

National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization that recognizes and develops high school students who demonstrate excellence in four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students are typically invited to apply after meeting their school’s minimum GPA requirement, often around 3.0 or higher. Meeting the GPA requirement qualifies students for consideration, but does not guarantee membership. Applicants generally submit information about their academic achievement, leadership, service, and extracurricular involvement. A faculty council reviews applications and selects students for induction. Once inducted, members are expected to maintain academic standards, participate in chapter meetings and service projects, and complete required community service hours. Members may also mentor students, support school events, and participate in leadership opportunities. NHS membership can strengthen college applications by demonstrating a student’s commitment to academics, leadership, service, and character. While requirements vary by school, all chapters operate under the national NHS framework and are supported by a faculty advisor.
